P-40N-5-CU 42-105927

This Hawk was originally built as a standard P-40N and at some point converted to a two-seat
TP-40N. Currently the only info that I have as to her wartime history is that she served with the
RTU at Key Field, Mississippi where she was involved in a taxiing accident on May 6th, 1944.

At some time post-war she was put on outdoor display at NAS Willow Grove, Pennsylvania, initially
in her USAAF markings and then in a pseudo AVG paint job. It's here that I have run into conflicting
information as to where this Hawk went next, but it is known that she was displayed outdoors as a
'bird on a stick' at Peterson AFB, Colorado (see a photo HERE) until 1994, at which point she went
to Warner Robins AFB, where she still resides today in the Museum of Aviation's collection.

Presumably post-war, 42-105927 sits rather forlornly at an unknown (to me) time and location.

Still in her USAAF markings, 42-105927 is seen in her early days at NAS Willow Grove.

The following six photos show 42-105927 on display at NAS Willow Grove after she'd
been painted up in the pseudo AVG / Chinese American Composite Wing paint scheme.

These next few shots clearly show that everything behind the front cockpit had been
painted and/or faired over in an attempt to make her look like a single-seat ship.

Godawful garish as it may appear, that sharkmouth was actually quite similar to those
applied to some Warhawks operated by the Chinese American Composite Wing in the CBI.

The following photos show 42-105927 on display in the Museum of Aviation at Warner Robins AFB,
having been converted back to her original appearance as a stock P-40N. However, she is painted to
loosely represent a P-40K that was flown by Col. Robert L. Scott while he was CO of the 23rd FG.

See more photos on the museum's page for this Hawk, HERE.
