P-40K-10-CU 42-10256

This P-40K was one of many supplied to the USSR during WWII. In 1943 the aircraft was shot down in the area
of Murmansk, where it lay until recovered in 1992. Initial restoration work was begun by Ken Hake of Tipton,
Kansas, but in 2004 the Hawk was bought by Ron and Diane Fagen of Warhawks Inc. and the project was moved
to Granite Falls, Minnesota. The ship flew again for the first time in almost 63 years on June 5th, 2006.

There is much more to the story of this fine restoration, which I hope to tell more completely in the future.

This Hawk is currently owned and operated by the
Texas Flying Legends Museum at Ellington Field, Houston, Texas.

Migrating North

This super-groovy shot was caught by Jessica Ambats from the tail of the B-25 'Betty's Dream'
during a flight North from TFLM's home at Ellington Field in Houston, to the Dakota Territory
Air Museum
in Minot, North Dakota, TFLM's staging base for that yearly wing-nut mecca that is
'Oshkosh'. I believe the photo was taken in the vicinity of Chadron, Nebraska in June of 2013.

Doug Rozendaal was driving the Hawk, while the B-25 was flown by Alan Miller.

Aleutian Tiger over the Bering Sea?

This super groovy photo by Moose Peterson is somewhat reminiscent of wartime photos
that show 343rd FG P-40s and other XI AF birds patrolling over the Bering Sea.
