Over the next several months she saw service on the Karelian Front in the defense of Murmansk, and was one of two
20 GIAP P-40s shot down on September 27th, 1942. Having been hit in the oil tank, the engine would have seized within
a couple of minutes, and this is undoubtedly what led her pilot, Major Ermakov, to belly her in south of Murmansk
where she lay for some fifty-one years before being discovered by satellite photography in 1993.

This Hawk is currently part of Paul Allen's Flying Heritage & Combat Armor Museum.
