Pearl Harbor

Someone once said that if you've nothing good to say, you should say nothing at all.

So...

From the standpoint of an average movie audience, this is a wonderful film. It has a little bit of everything...
drama, humor, romance, and action. And the cinematography is tops... visually, with a few exceptions, this film
is a fine work of art. AND it has P-40s!!! What else could you want from a major motion picture, except maybe
more homework in the history department, less Hollywood horseshit, and a more appropriate film title?

Oh.

Like someone once said, if you've nothing good to say...

Did I mention that this flick has P-40s?!?

At least four real P-40s were used in this film...

Kittyhawk I AK933, P-40N 42-106396, P-40N 42-105192, and P-40N 44-7084.

To start things off, here's a few shots taken during filming in Hawaii... I'd like to thank
Mike 'MAJ' McDougall of Fighting Classics Aircraft Restoration for permission to include them here.

The Planes of Fame P-40N...

Kevin Eldridge keeps the B-25 camera ship steady while the P-40s are filmed.
The Hawk nearest the B-25 is #308, PoF's P-40N, while the other, #306, is P-40N 44-7084.

The P-40s and other aircraft used in the film sit on a barge, waiting for a tow
back to San Diego, California after the completion of filming.

Here's a screengrab from the film. See more grabs HERE...

Caught in a candid shot taken during filming, Ben Affleck and Josh Hartnett play
USAAC pilots Rafe McCawley and Danny Walker. Both characters are said to be rough
composites of some of the real-life pilots who took part in the fighting on December 7th, 1941.
The Hawk they're keeping company with here is P-40N 44-7084, which flew as #306 in the film.

Nurse Lt. Evelyn Johnson, played by the lovely Kate Beckinsale.
Yeah, yeah, yeah... there's no P-40 in this photo. So sue me...

And here's a couple for the ladies... promotional shots of Ben Affleck with AK933.

This promotional still shows at least three of the real P-40s used for the film.
AK933 (#302) is in the lower left foreground, while P-40N 44-7084 (#306) and the
Planes of Fame P-40N (#308) are the first two ships in the line of Hawks on the left.

Some of the replicas used in the film are destroyed in ridiculously spectacular fashion.

And to finish things off, a couple movie posters...
