P-40s at Grenier Field, NH

P-40F 41-13806

Charles G. Overall, a pilot with the 315th FS, 324th FG, made a forced-landing at Grenier Field
in this P-40F after its engine quit on November 22nd, 1942. The ship was repaired and subsequently
suffered damage in two landing accidents during 1944 while based at Luke Field, Arizona.

P-40F 41-14077

P-40F 41-14077, named 'BlackJack', suffered a landing accident at Grenier on November 14th, 1942
while Irving W. Rich, a pilot with the 318th FS, 325th FG, was behind the stick. This ship appears
to have previously served with the 57th Fighter Group, indicated by the diamond motif on the nose,
and carries the twin stripes of a squadron commander on the rear fuselage, though I do not know
if these were for the 318th's C.O. or for the Hawk's previous owners within the 57th FG.

(Some sources state that this incident occurred at Hillsgrove AAF, Rhode Island, and not
at Grenier. The tag at the bottom of the photo as well as my primary source for accident
info (the AAIR database) would seem to disagree, and so further digging is required.)
