Early Days

P-40B #22 of the 64th Pursuit Squadron was photographed at Lake Charles, Louisiana
in August of 1941 by Sgt. Fred Mangold of the 113th Observation Squadron.
This would have been right around the time the 1941 Louisiana Maneuvers began.

Sting of the Scorpion

This P-40K carries a fine example of the 64th's scorpion emblem on its nose.

P-40K-1 42-46040 was flown by 1Lt. R. Johnson 'Jay' Overcash. Note the marking
on the nose, above the 64th's black scorpion emblem... 'dot-dot-dot-dash' in white.
In morse code this tranlslates to the letter 'V', and presumably means 'V for Victory'.
