P-40E #11 'Jeanne'
This photo shows Lt. George Prentice's P-40E in late March of 1942, possibly at Batchelor Airfield,
Northern Territory, Australia. Later in the war, Prentice became the first CO of the 475th Fighter Group,
and the artwork on the rudder, said to be a cartoon devil, was adopted as that outfit's insignia.

Starry Hawk
Darwin, June 19th, 1942. I have conflicting info as to the identity of this pilot
with #36, but most sources ID him as Captain William 'Bill' Hennon. The other ship
is P-40E-1 #94, 'Bob's Robin', flown by 1Lt. Robert Vaught of the 9th Fghter Squadron.

The fella on the left here is also identified in a few sources as Captain Hennon, though
he does not appear to be the same guy shown above. So at the moment, I'm not sure
which is actually Hennon. The fella on the right is 1Lt. James B. Morehead.

P-40K #15 'Scatter Brain'
I've got a bit of conflicting info for this ship... some sources say 'Scatter Brain' was
assigned to Lt. Ed Ball, others (including the caption for the second of these photos) indicate
that the pilot was Lt. Lawrence Succop. Yet the name under the windscreen, though mostly illegible,
fairly clearly indicates that the assigned pilot held the rank of Captain. I'll look into it some
more and update this bit if and when I come up with something that's a bit more definite.
Anyhoo, regardless of whose mount this was, it would seem that, on the date these photos
were taken, May 15th, 1943, Lt. Succop used 'Scatter Brain' to down two Japs... reportedly
an 'Oscar' and a 'Lily'. He was apparently also a bit too close to the 'Oscar' when it
exploded, picking up a bit of oil on the spinner and forward cowling.
